THE STEERING COMMITTEE

We are setting up a steering committee of retired elite coaches and players to help promote the idea that performance, beauty, and joy of life are beyond attaining The Standard.

We are setting up a steering committee of retired elite coaches and players to help promote the idea that performance, beauty, and joy of life are beyond attaining The Standard.

A Sport, any sport, exists as a set of standards and rules which players agree to abide by. It is logical to assume that success awaits those who are best able to execute the standards of a sport within the rules. This logic creates performance pathways where the chosen few have everything planned for them. When to sleep, when to get up, when to eat, when and how to train. To achieve the highest standard possible.

But, it's missing something. Something very important. Progress is made by finding previously unseen performance that always lies outside of The Standard. Think the high jump and the Fosbury flop. And many other superstars of their individual sport - who rewrite how their sport is done. They don't limit - they take steps to avoid limiting - their performance to only execute to The Standard. They hunt progress that they know is always found beyond attaining The Standard. Think Kobe Bryant.

We find progress like this by seeing, creating, and exploiting space between executing elements of The Standard. It's in this space where we can think a little differently to create something out of nothing. It's where we can play with ideas to find previously hidden performance that always lies beyond simply attaining The Standard.

But, performance pathways make Coaches and Players see only the attainment of The Standard. There is nothing else other than attaining The Standard. This switches off the brain's ability to see the space between the elements of The Standard. Coaches and Players lose the ability to adapt on the field of play. They can't create anything out of nothing. To them there is nothing beyond the attainment of The Standard.

When coaches and players are rejected from the performance pathway or retire they can't see anything other than failure. To them, there was nothing else beyond attaining The Standard they have just failed to do. We aim to change this by helping everyone to access Games Coaching.
